Where do scout bees like to fly?

Scout bees are the worker bees responsible for the reconnaissance task in the bee colony, there are two main types, one is the honey source scout bees, this scout bees are the mass collection of pollen scouts, and the other is the nest site scout bees, this scout bees appear in the bee division period or migration period, let's take a look at where the scout bees like to fly!
  • Rich sources of honey
Scout bees like to fly where there are abundant nectar sources, which are plants that provide pollen and nectar for bees. There are two main requirements for honey sources, one is that the number of honey sources must be large, and the other is that the honey flow period should be relatively continuous, and it is difficult to attract reconnaissance bees where the honey source is scarce or the honey flow period is broken.
  • Environmental suitability
Scout bees like to fly in a suitable environment, first of all, the environment must be quiet, such as schools, roads, factories, mines, railways and other noisy places are difficult to attract scout bees; Secondly, there should be clean water sources nearby, but not close to reservoirs, lakes, rivers and other large waters, otherwise bees are easy to drown; The third is to be able to shelter from wind and rain (you can also cover the canopy above the beehive to block rain).
  • Few enemies
Scout bees like to fly in places with few enemies, because bees in nature also have many natural enemies, such as spiders, dragonflies, bats, birds, etc., will invade and kill bees, especially wasps, the greatest threat to bees, wasps will not only kill workers who go out to collect honey, but also attack bee colonies in the season of food scarcity.
  • How far spy bees can fly
  1.    natural bee division: Before the natural bee division, the swarm will send reconnaissance bees to search for a new nest site, and choose the most suitable nest site when the natural bee division, the search scope is generally within 3 kilometers of the original hive, if the scope can not find a suitable new nest site, the reconnaissance bees will also expand the scope of investigation.
  2.  abandon the nest to fly: the swarm will abandon the nest to fly in the lack of honey or serious enemy damage, but before abandoning the nest to fly scout bees often search for a new nest site in advance, the search scope is generally more than 5 kilometers away from the original hive, if still can not find a suitable new nest site the swarm will fly farther to search for a new nest site.
